Athens – Day 2, Aboard the Oceania Marina

Last night we had dinner at a wonderful fish restaurant. The taxi ride took forever, even though the hotel concierge said it was close. Between one way, extremely narrow streets, and heavy traffic we probably could have walked there faster. But, I was happy to have a tour without needing to walk. The bars and restaurants were hopping, Athens is very lively no matter what time of day.

This morning we wandered around the neighborhood window shopping and people watching. Then another long taxi ride to Piraeus, the city’s port. It is an enormous (30 kilometers long) port for ferries to the islands, cruise ships and freight. In years past I took ferries to Crete, Molyvos, Rhodes, and several other islands. Today I watched a steady stream of ferries departing and arriving, while eating lunch on an outdoor deck of the cruise ship. What an absolute delight!

Tonight we departing and tomorrow we are at sea. A perfect opportunity to totally relax!
