Bilbao, Day 2 — Part 2 – Soccer and the Old Town

Today is a big day for soccer in Bilbao — the 2024 UEFA Women’s Champions League final is being held at San Mamés Stadium. The tram into town was jammed with fans wearing team gear, singing chants and ready for a good time. When I walked back to the hotel from the Guggenheim, the streets were filled with revelers – the Catalan women had won the tournament. This is an incredibly happy city tonight. Every street and bar is filled with revelers.

Old town is filled with impressive architecture, churches, government buildings, homes and more. Once again, I took far too many photos. I love this town for many reasons, not least of which is that there are benches everywhere. When my back began to complain I would sit down and people watch. Because of the tournament the city is buzzing, so it was easy to park myself for a long while and enjoy the scene.
