I’m in Texas attending the #NATJA (North American Travel Journalist Association) conference. #visitgalveston
Galveston is an island in the Gulf of Mexico, about an hour from Houston. The last time I was here was decades ago, prior to Hurricane Ike in 2008, which caused thirty billion dollars in damages. It has been rebuilt, but absolutely nothing looks familiar to me.
The conference is being held at Moody Gardens, a luxurious resort and conference center. I’ve been meeting fellow writers and learning a lot. But the highlight was the dinner last night, held at the aquarium at Moody Gardens.
Imagine eating dinner while a shark stares over your shoulder. We got access to the jellyfish “nursery” where they raise jellyfish for display and learned about the process. And then, got to see tanks full of mature jellies, artfully lit.
The only slight downside, I felt guilty eating seafood while fish swam by. I managed to get over it.
