Still writing on the phone, so apologies for any typos.
The ship arrived in Kotor early this morning. I was up in time to watch sunrise as we traveled through the narrow straight leading into the town. It was overcast, so no great photos,. But I was delighted that I remembered the landscape. I was here about 15 years ago and have very fond and surprisingly clear memories.
The town stretches along the bay, punctuated by dozens of churches. Some hug the sea, others climb high into the mountains.
The center of town is a walled city. A maze of narrow alleys lead into larger squares. The squares are anchored by one or two churches, surrounded by restaurants, gift shops and art galleries.
Everywhere there are cats roaming around. The citizens love the cats. Though strays, they are well fed and healthy looking. That of course doesn’t stop them from prowling around the restaurants hoping for handouts or falling crumbs.
Sue and I had a great lunch or broiled squid. In one of the galleries I was sorely tempted to buy a sculpture. However they wouldn’t ship it, so it remains in Kotor.
