The big news in Medellin this weekend is that Bad Bunny is performing here. It’s the reason I had difficulty getting a hotel room and why flights were all oversold. Bad Bunny Mania is evident everywhere, from the huge banner in airport immigration, to the t-shirts, and mostly his followers. They’re easy to spot.
He is not, however, the reason I’m here. I came to visit friends and to enjoy this lovely city and its perfect weather. While New York City is suffering through freezing temperatures and preparing for the first major snowstorm in years, I’ve been enjoying an idyllic temperature (seventy nine degrees), sunshine and lots of greenery.
I met my friends Phil and Jim this morning. After coffee and lots of catching up, we headed out for a walk. I had to stop every few minutes to capture some lovely flowers or plants. We wandered through a couple of parks, discovered a small Saturday produce market, saw street art, and I managed to get to an ATM for money.
Then, it was off to lunch with a group of their friends. No, we didn’t eat Colombian food. We ate Italian. The chef is Colombian but had worked for 20 years in Philadelphia before he returned home to open this restaurant. The tiny restaurant serves great food and the company was wonderful.
After a very long lunch, I returned to my hotel. I sat outside slowly, sipping a drink and just taking in the wonderful fresh air.
