Phil met me this morning and we headed off to do two of my favorite things. First, we went to a market, one of the largest in the city, Plaza Minorista.
Though it was a Sunday morning, the place was packed. It’s a huge market that sells just about everything. We stuck with the food areas, mostly looking at fruits and vegetables. Surprisingly, I knew what most of the fruits and vegetables were. Often when I go into foreign markets, I don’t have a clue. But it’s always fun to people watch, to see what’s on sale, and to see how the produce is displayed. We stopped for choclo arepas, a type of corn cake popular here. I asked for coffee to go with the arepas. But instead, we got cups of hot chocolate into which they put cheese, not marshmallows. It was an interesting flavor combination.
From there, we headed to the botanical gardens. I had been there last year with Phil and loved it. This year, I especially loved it because it was green and warm, and I knew that in New York it was snowing and freezing cold. It made it even more wonderful.
While there we got to see the butterfly pavilion. I had a wonderful time observing the butterflies and taking photographs.
Our next stop was cross town to have lunch with Jim and Roy. Once again, it was an Italian restaurant. These guys don’t much like Colombian food. And in fact, I’m not sure what typical Colombian food is. I certainly haven’t eaten any yet.
The photos below are for all of my friends in cold weather climates who are getting clobbered by the snow. Enjoy the greenery.
