Today my cousin and I went to see an exhibit at the NC Museum of Art: To Take Shape and Meaning – Form and Design in Contemporary American Indian Art. I’m fond of both traditional and contemporary Native American art and have seen a lot of it over the years. This was a small but well-curated exhibition.
While we were there, we wandered through some of the other collections. There were two wonderful portraits by Kehinde Wilde (the artist who painted the official portraits of the President Obama). A surprisingly large collection of Rodin sculptures. And, my favorite, an exhibition of African art, most of it contemporary from all corners of the continent. I saw some unusual and fabulous African masks, sculpture, and paintings.
