Early this afternoon I arrived at the port of Piraeus (Greece) to board the Oceania Vista. The size of the ship surprised me, though it shouldn’t have. My stateroom is on the tenth deck and there are six decks above me. The ship can accommodate 1,200 passengers. The ship is just over one year old and compared to other new cruise ships it is tiny.
Once the shock about the size began to wear off, I was pleasantly surprised by the ship. My stateroom is spacious and beautifully appointed. The public spaces are elegant and provide everything from quiet nooks to a rousing party atmosphere. Whoever their interior decorator was did a superb job. The color palette, artwork on display, furniture and overall design is beautiful.
I’d read that Oceania has the best food at sea. Based on my limited experience I can’t vouch for that. But it’s definitely the best cruise ship food I’ve eaten. The restaurant choices and menu selections are vast, there are no buffets, and the food delicious.
We set sail tonight heading towards Santorini. It will be my first time there in over twenty years. I’m looking forward to it.
