Istanbul

Today I decided to hang out on the ship (the Oceanic Vista). We didn’t dock in Istanbul until 1 pm. Then, with most people off on excursions, I had the perfect opportunity to enjoy all the ship has to offer. I’ll be spending five days in Istanbul, so will have plenty of time to sightsee, and I’ve been here before.

I woke up late (for me—8 am), lolled about and finally got myself to breakfast. Then I grabbed a book, sat on my terrace and watched the Turkish coastline pass by. Later, as passengers were disembarking, I made my way to the pool deck. I had a swim, spent time soaking in the whirlpool, and lounging on a very comfortable deck chair. The stewards brought me iced tea and I drifted off.

Hours later I returned to my cabin and packed for my disembarkation tomorrow morning. I will miss this ship, it is comfortable, well appointed, with a fabulous crew, and great food.

Next it was off to afternoon tea. In a beautiful lounge I sipped chai and nibbled on sandwiches and goodies (my lunch) while a classical quartet played. After tea, I returned to the pool deck, found another comfortable deck chair with a view of the bustling dock area and the city.

This evening I’ll be having dinner with people I met yesterday evening. It will be our celebratory farewell to the voyage.
