The spa at Ixtapan de la Sal has become one of my favorite places to disappear for a while. Life here is blissfully uncomplicated.
Nowhere I need to be. Nothing pressing to do. Meals appear, my bed is made and room tidied, and nobody cares what I wear. All of this surrounded by lush tropical greenery.
The toughest decisions I face: Massage or facial? Stretch class in the heated mineral-water pool or something more ambitious? Water aerobics? Aqua Zumba? Read a book or stare into space while sitting beside one of the sparkling pools.
But I realize these decisions are of little concern to you. Just know that I am thoroughly enjoying being a slug.
Last night, however, the hotel placed additional demands on me with its weekly fiesta. I had to contend with margaritas, tacos, tamales, guacamole, fresh chips, and dancers performing.
It’s a grueling schedule.
Enough. I need a nap to recover from all this exertion.
